stamps
for a jewellery exhibition i needed stamps to ad some colour on black/white copied booklets and white paper bags to create a quick and low budget house style.
starting with a design created in illustrator, inverted so text and images will turn out right when stamped. i used the inexpensive rubber which i could buy at fablab directly. it comes in the size of A4, so i decided to make emedialtly a fefor a jewellery exhibition i needed stamps to ad some colour on black/white copied booklets and white paper bags to create a quick and low budget house style.
starting with a design created in illustrator, inverted so text and images will turn out right when stamped. i used the inexpensive rubber which i could buy at fablab directly. it comes in the size of A4, so i decided to make immedialtly a few different stamps to use almost the whole size of the material in one go.
the machine settings for the engraving are
s = 7
p= 70
ppi= 700
and the laser cutter needs approximately 2 hours to do the job.
after finishing, the rubber has to be cleaned with water in order to get rid of the pulverized material in the deeper parts of the engraving. the cut out rubber can be glued on a flat piece of wood. the handle can be a large cork or another piece of wood.
in case the stamp is bigger than the usual size of ink pads, you can order them for example at posthumus in amsterdam.
prices are around 48 euros for a 20cm wide pad, ink excl.
i did not try out the more expansive rubber, but from my experiance with the cheaper material, i can say that it is quiet difficult to get a good stamp result if you have bigger surfaces. for small shapes or letters it works fine though.
thanks to fablab!
