Café Tinnitus
Inspiration:
One main idea in my work is to stimulate people to get into contact with their surroundings.
Here I made a proposal to connecting people of the same target-group:
A café aiming at parents how want to go out and bring their children along. Parents relax in the cafe while kids enjoy the bouncing castle upstairs.
Their kids are the best point to get in conversation with each other and to get into contact with people in the same phase of life.
The cafe:
Café Tinnitus - a café
with a bouncing castle as a roof. Sitting in the café on the ground floor you see
the kids jumping through the opaque-transparent roof from below slightly blurred.
The
light in the café is colored through the differently colored
air chambers of the jumping castle that you can see .
The bouncing castle of several rings creates a 3 dimensional jumping landscape inspired by Verner Pantons sitting landscapes.
There is one service block that contains the bar, toilets, stairs to get up into the bouncing castle and the compressor.
Production:
First I modeled the cafe 3-dimensional on the computer using Cinema 4D and finished the .stl files in Rhino.
For this project I used the BZT pf 1000c Milling Machine of the fablab to make the positive forms of the rings and boards of the bouncing castle. I milled them from MDF with a thickness of 4cm- not the best idea, because MDF is not really hard on the inside-so it takes much more time to finish it it of. You better use the grey artificial wood.
I milled the boards from two sides here it is essential to keep the diameter of the milling-head in thoughts when you adjust the board on the working area and enter a reference point in the machine. otherwise the front and backside might not fit together.
after finishing of the positive forms i casted them in silicone.
Into these silicon molds i casted colored Polyester.
If you have access to a vacuum chamber to get the bubbles out of the material i hardly recommend to get a more healthy material. The advantage of polyester is that the bubbles get out of the resin if u you use it right.
