Candy Lab 01
We were curious as to the way a sheet of solid candy would react under the laser cutter.
These are some images of our results..... unfortunately no settings were recorded.
#1 #2
#3 #4
What was discovered was that on a lighter setting the laser engraved quite nicely into the candy. However, when we tried to penetrate in further, to cut out a shape for example, the candy simply melted, reformed and just caramalised. It also distorted the candy around it. Look to image #3.
My uneducated theory on this is that the caramalisation occurs because of the glucose and water content in the candy. We had previously lasered sugar cubes and we could cut through them without the sugar re-sealing.
When we changed the setting so that it's power was between the settings in image #3, and increased the speed, the result was that it shattered the candy.... image #4.
All in all... not so succesful and I'm doubtful about the hygine factor........
...fun none the less..!!
