Doorstep climber - New Tracks part 2

Image:
project:

Learning from our previous mistakes is a big part of rapid prototyping, so once again we went to improve the tracks for our track system.
We didn't change much about the model, although we took extra care on feeding it to the shop-bot computer.

What we did change was the material in which we would carve the model for the mould. This time we used machinable wax.
To get the whole mould in one go we needed to melt down some wax bars, and pour it into a container with the size of the bar that we needed.

Doorstep climber - New Tracks

project:

Modelling, moulding and casting a rim out of aluminium proofed to be a lot of work, and also quit time consuming. But Michiel really liked the idea, so he decided to have a go at it.
Meanwhile Alex and me decided to have another go at the idea of making a rubber track that would fit my tire. But this time we would only use one side of the profile for traction. So I went back to the drawing board to model the new track

Foamrubber on lasercutter

Image:

I cut approximately 45 mm of foamrubber to distract our logo from it. It took me a little while to find the right settings.

In the end I decided to let the laser rerun the same print job 3 times to cut the material all the way. before that it only cut 33% of the thicknes.

I do think I will have to redo it because the logo has some very thin parts and the laser did create quite a thick cutting-line because of the heat it produces.
