Hello everybody,
This was our first session in the fablab where we would actually work on creating our physical prototype interactive gymmat. The interactive gymmat uses a projector which projects puzzles and gyms on a gymmat with touchsensors that in turn registers the actions of the child and report it back to the computer. We needed a cheap way to make some sort of touch sensors and thanks to Alex we stumbled upon this great project.
SlimGym is an interactive gymmat where movement and schoollessons are combined. Schoolsubjects are projected on an interactive gymmat in imaginative way, utilizing the fantasy of children to make those subjects more playfull and interesting to the child and thus allowing the child to learn in a better way.
Dance Mats
To show kids how to make their own controllers for computer games I helped The Creative Learning Lab to develop a design process for doing just that, which only requires very basic materials and skills.
This fab moment shows an example of this concept, explaining how to make an interactive dance mat for the open source computer game Stepmania, which is comparable to the famous arcade game Dance Dance Revolution.
If you would like to make your own, you’ll need the following tools and materials:
