We made a partial, full-scale mockup of the design to make sure our assumptions about scale were in fact correct, and to make final adjustments to the dimensions.
Proof of concept.

Cardboard prototype. Destination of the design is yet to be determined.
laser settings for card board cutting:
Speed: 3%
Power: 90%
Please be aware, the burn speed was too slow for the line density of the design and the material chosen, there are burn marks on the back of the cardboard where the lines are close to each other, so I recommend a faster speed or slightly less power.
This patch is fairly self expanitory....
a pillow that vibrates. The idea is also so that you can either sit on, you can lay your head on it, resting your neck into the indent, or you can have it on your lap or behind you whilst sitting up.
The idea of the pillow patch is for it to be added to other patches like so......
I decided that I would like there to be a modula piece that incorporates audio. From my visit to the Cordaan home and from my discussions with the staff, I was given the impression that music is a vital part of the snoezel room.
The snoezel room that I visited had a normal cd/radio player, and according to the carer, each child had a different preference for music and would even turn the volume up and down.
This leads me to believe that the children/users enjoy the interaction and control over what it is they hear.
The Patch Blanki idea has stemmed from a want to make a snoezel object that is modula in style.
I feel this is a useful way to approach the object as it can cater for a wide range of kids/patients/users. It can also have the possibility of being assembled by the carer specifically for the user. Furthermore the object itself can be used in different ways..... a mat, a blanket or a shelter.
First I'll show my idea's regarding the Patch Blanki as a shelter.........
The 'Activity Blocks' are one of my firsts attempts at playing with the idea of building a snoezel object.
Initial inspriation for this object, or group of objects, came from the work of Leah Buechley, particuarly her Boda Blocks project......
your can also watch a little movie..... http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~buechley/movies/boda_blocks_5_05.mov
In the Boda Block project Leah has rules such as:
if off and = 1 blue neighbor -> blue
